A Little Bit About Me

Welcome to my blog! I am a part-time mechanical engineer in the automotive field and part-time stay at home mom. My move to part-time occurred about 9 months after my son was born. Prior to that I was a full-time supervisor, and I just wasn’t getting the time I wanted with my son. For me, this was a very significant change in my mindset and ambitions. I am thankful that my husband and I had worked so hard on reducing our debt / increasing our savings prior to my son’s birth, and thankful that I had the courage to make such a big change. The time with my son is so beyond worth it.

I love traveling, cooking, reading, and exploring. I live with my husband, son (almost 2), dog and cat in Michigan.

Why I Started a Blog

There are a few reasons that I am starting a blog. The first is that we are currently under ‘Shelter in Place’ due to the COVID19 situation. I am still working but from home. This in itself is a new challenge as my husband is also working from home and we have a toddler running around. I needed somewhere to gather my thoughts, and it seemed like the perfect time to consider a blog.

Secondly, I am a problem solver by trade. The overall gist of engineering school is teaching you to solve complex problems. I enjoy this aspect of my job thoroughly. In addition, I’ve always loved writing, but haven’t really had an outlet to develop or hone this skill since school. Honestly, I’ve missed it.

Third, in addition to working from home, 20% of my pay for the next few months is being deferred. As a result, I’ve been looking for ways to find a bit of extra cash. This is an experiment to see if blogging can help in this way at all. If I’m being honest, my crazy dream is that it would replace my income and that I could stay at home with my son and any future kids we might have. Like I said, crazy dreams. I’ll let you all know how that works out for me.

Why Gracefully Busy?

I don’t think many of intend to live busy lives; however, I think for most of us, there isn’t much way around it. With kids, work, church, family, etc. being busy has become the new norm. For some of us, this is an especially busy season of life. While, I don’t think I can take the busy out of your life, I’m hoping to help you be more efficient and intentional with your time. If we are going to be busy, let’s be gracefully busy.

I’m looking forward to sharing with all of you and welcome to any comments / requests. If you have a problem that you could use help solving, let me know.

Thanks,

Kristin
